TSJ annulled ruling acquitting officers indicted for April 11 events
The Constitutional Court of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice
(TSJ) Friday declared null and void a ruling issued by the TSJ
Plenary Court on August 14th, 2002 that acquitted four military
officers indicted for leading a coup d'etat on April 11th, 2002.
The Constitutional Court, responding to a request filed by
Attorney General Isaías Rodríguez, also revoked a
discontinuance of proceedings on the charges of civil rebellion
presented on May 2002 against Major General Efraín Vásquez
Velasco (retired), Brigadier General Pedro Pereira Olivares
(retired), Vice Admiral Héctor Daniel Pérez, and Rear
Admiral Daniel Comiso Urdaneta (retired).
"This ruling has been issued after confirming the outrageous
violation of the constitutional principles and rights consecrated
in the Constitution," said judge Luisa Estela Morales, president
of the Constitutional Court.
