Police: Soldier was not forced to plead guilty
Henry David Zerpa, national coordinator of criminal investigations
from the Scientific and Criminal Investigation Force (Cicpc),
Tuesday denied that soldier José Gregorio Acuña Gil
had been forced to plead guilty on charges of burning two mates
held in a punishment room of a quarter in the eastern city of
Cumaná.
That Acuña was forced to plead guilty "has been ruled
out," Zerpa said, as he was allegedly questioned in the presence
of military prosecutor Julio César Araque and 8th fundamental
rights prosecutor Lino Benavides.
However, it is precisely these prosecutors whom Acuña's
family is blaming for having forced the young soldier to sign
a paper without reading it.
