AN president denounces attempt to bribe justice in Anderson case

National Assembly (AN) president Nicolás Maduro (MVR)
claimed Thursday that a meeting was held at the residence
of businessman Tobías Carrero last Monday night to try
to bribe the judge hearing the case on the murder of public
prosecutor Danilo Anderson.
The action, according to Maduro, was intended to save one
of the defendants. "Tobías Carrero, Alberto Federico
Ravell, Nelson Mezerhane and some lawyers closely related
to the judiciary attended the meeting."
"An agreement emerged. USD 3 million would be used to save
one of the persons charged with masterminding the crime,"
he added.
Maduro failed to clarify how Mezerhane attended the meeting
if he was held in the Directorate for Intelligence, Security
and Prevention. When reporters insisted on a better explanation,
he commented that the businessman's relatives and representatives
were present instead.
