"Opposition should take part in elections"

Eduardo Fernández, head of opposition Copei party, thinks that opposition political parties should continue taking part in the elections to be held next Sunday, December 4th despite the glitches found in voting machines last week and findings or possible violation of vote secrecy.

"In my opinion, the whole opposition should take part in the elections and build a democratic majority to defeat the government and show a huge grassroots force," Fernández told Unión Radio.

Copei is to decide during a meeting on possible withdrawal from the elections.

Fernández acknowledged that presently non-participation in the polls is the prevailing opinion among opposition parties.

"I personally deem it a mistake, but any decision to be made by Copei National Committee will be announced at the end of the meeting," he added.
