Venezuelan minister of the Interior and Justice Jesse Chacón
Monday launched in Bogotá a number of meetings with officials
of Colombian President Alvaro Uribe's government with a view
to ponder security mechanisms over their common border, AFP
reported.
Chacón is scheduled to meet with Colombian vice-minister
of the Interior, Hernando Angarita, and with the director
of Colombian secret police (DAS) Andrés Peñate.
Chacón's visit to Colombian capital city was agreed
upon last December 23rd in Caracas, when he met with Peñate.
Their first meeting came following a series of bilateral impasses
related to mutual claims of spying and plots to kill President
Hugo Chávez.
Chacón and Peñate are to review the work of the
taskforces comprising Venezuelan and Colombian security officers
that were created to favor the exchange of information to
reduce crime in border towns.
The major topics Chacón and Peñate are to address
Monday include drug traffic, car robbery, and others.
The latest Colombia-Venezuela impasse came after President
Chávez claimed that DAS was "fabricating plots" against
his government and acted together with the Colombian Armed
Forces as an autonomous body independent from Colombian Presidency.
