Venezuela backs identification plan in Bolivia

Venezuela is to fund a huge plan in Bolivia to grant identification documents to more than one million people, most of them poor peasants in remote areas, AP reported.

The Venezuelan Government will provide USD 8 million, as part of a task started last February 7th, La Prensa daily quoted Monday.

While Venezuelan personnel will handle the information, Bolivian officials will be responsible for the tasks, Citizen's Security Vice-Minister José Percy Paredes stressed.

"The staff and authorities of the National Electoral Council, the Civil Registry Office and the police will be responsible for implementation of this massive campaign that will be announced by President Evo Morales," Paredes stated.

Last January 23rd, following his inauguration, President Morales and his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chávez signed cooperation agreements. The Venezuelan Government undertook to support a literacy program along with Cuba.

Also, President Chávez vowed to provide Bolivia with diesel fuel and buy additional 200,00 tons of soja.
