Juan Carlos Gutiérrez, the defense attorney of journalists
Marianela Salazar and Ibéyise Pacheco, announced a meeting
Tuesday to take a decision on the legal actions to be undertaken
following a review of the case file.
He explained that the decision whether Pacheco will appear
to the courthouse within the next 48 hours will be discussed
during the meeting. "The first sentence to nine month-imprisonment
against her is conclusively final," he conceded.
"There are several alternatives that would allow for service
of the sentence in freedom, and also there are other alternatives
that even prevent such service. We will take these decisions
and implement them right afterwards."
The 11th Execution Court issued Monday a bench warrant against
Pacheco. In the meantime, the 45th Control Court ordered a
trial against Salazar for slander affecting Vice-President
José Vicente Rangel and Miranda Governor Diosdado Cabello.
"Technically yesterday, there were no two effective complaints
against Ibéyise Pacheco. There was a second case that
was settled. The party to the case, Colonel Ángel Bellorín,
agreed to terminate it. There is a third complaint admitted,
but its effects were stayed upon decision of the Criminal
Court, Supreme Tribunal of Justice."
