Peruvian Conservative candidate Lourdes Flores thinks that
Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez "is a danger in the
dark" in Latin America due to his project of "authoritarian
expansion."
"Chávez is a danger in the dark in Latin America and
I feel there is risk of expansion of this authoritarian project.
However, despite my clear differences, as the President of
Peru, I will grant him the place he deserves nowadays, that
is, as the president of the Andean Community," she told AFP
during a press conference.
Flores explained that in the event of becoming president,
she will "work on a friendly relation, respectful of each
people's decision." "But, concomitantly, we should take a
prudent, dependable stance to prevent a wave of authoritarianism
or populist expansion in Latin America," she added.
Recent elections have produced "rulers who were meant to
be most appropriate for each nation. Therefore, my treatment
will be full of respect for the presidents of fellow nations.
My treatment will be one of a democratic ruler."
