US Ambassador to Venezuela William Brownfield Thursday said
that Venezuela is sovereign regarding its decisions on oil,
but added that he wished the country keeps selling it to US
costumers, Efe reported.
The US envoy explained his points of view on Venezuelan oil
policy when asked about a warning issued by President Hugo
Chávez, who threatened Wednesday to blow up oil fields
in the event of a US invasion.
"The oil policy is sovereign, and it is the Government which
decides what it is going to do with the natural resources.
What I ratify is that the trade and oil relationship between
Venezuela and the US is productive and positive for both parties,
because we are natural partners for geographical reasons,"
the diplomat said.
In any case, added Brownfield, it is a decision of the Venezuelan
Government to maintain or change this policy toward the US.
