Jorge Rodríguez, former president of the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE), has been disabled as an electoral observer during the upcoming second round of the Peruvian presidential election, as he was involved in an irregular situation during the first round, sources of the Peruvian Electoral Board (JNE) ratified on Wednesday.

JNE made the decision based on the fact that Rodríguez, then the top Venezuelan electoral authority, on April 9 violated the rules for international electoral observers, as he openly backed one of the Peruvian presidential candidates, namely nationalist Ollanta Humala, DPA reported.

According to TV reports, Rodríguez was always by Humala's side, behaved as his friend, offered him logistical support and even played the role of Humala's bodyguard, when the nationalist candidate was harassed by foes outside a balloting center. Therefore, for Peruvian authorities, Rodríguez violated the principle of impartiality.

Humala, who is facing former president center-leftist Alan García in a second round next June 4th, has been openly supported by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez.
