The Attorney General Office is to make Eduardo Lapi appear
to the courthouse. The former governor of western Yaracuy
state was arrested early Tuesday in the capital city of San
Felipe.
Lapi has been charged with abuse of authority, circumvention
of bidding and preliminary agreement to appoint contractors,
the Attorney General Office said in a press release.
As stated in the press release, the bench warrant was substantiated
with the last portion of Article 250, Organic Code of Criminal
Procedure (COOP). This provision sets forth the arrest of
an individual under investigation in "extremely necessary
and urgent" cases.
Additionally, it was concluded that the defendant could flee
the country, as he has not a established residence.
On Tuesday morning, the police made a raid in the house where
Lapi was staying and took him to the headquarters of the Directorate
for Intelligence, Security and Prevention (Disip).
