Pro-government parliamentarians José Albornoz (PPT), Pedro Carreño (MVR) and Ismael García (Podemos) requested the Attorney General's Office to issue bench warrants against non-governmental organization Súmate's leaders, whom they accused of alleged involvement in usurpation, high treason, solicitation to commit crime and conspiracy in connection with the group's funding for the opposition primary elections.

The three lawmakers filed an action with Félix Mercades, head of the Legal Proceedings Division, Attorney General's Office, claiming that Súmate has purported to usurp the role of the National Electoral Council (CNE) by organizing an electoral process intended to select one single opposition presidential candidate to face Hugo Chávez in next December 3rd election. With such a move, Súmate is supposedly running counter article 214, Crime Code. Violation of such regulation is punished with a 2-6 month prison term.

They also accused Súmate leaders María Corina Machado, Alejandro Plaz and Roberto Abdul of high treason because "they received huge amounts of money from the United States to plot against institutions." Albornoz claimed that Súmate is to use USD 12 million to conduct the opposition primaries.
