Colombia to file evidence that FARC leaders are in Ecuador and Venezuela

The Colombian Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense, María Consuelo Araújo and Juan Manuel Santos, respectively, said they are soon to submit evidence to the governments of Ecuador and Venezuela showing that leaders of the rebel Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC) are in those countries, Efe reported.

Last October 20, Colombian President Álvaro Uribe said guerrilla leader Raúl Reyes, aka Luis Eduard Devia, is hiding in Ecuador, while guerrilla leader Iván Márquez, whose real name is Luciano Marín Arango, is in Venezuela.

Santos and Araújo told local radio stations that there is "fresh" evidence that Reyes is in Ecuador and Márquez in Venezuela.

Araújo said they would submit such evidence "very soon (to Ecuador) through the diplomatic channels under the Bilateral Border Committee)."

Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicolás Maduro and his Colombian counterpart María Consuelo Araújo will review a common agenda next Monday in Bogotá.

"The issues of intelligence and security, which were followed up by the Defense Ministers, and other topics as important, such as the gas pipeline, the sale of fuel on the border, trade and, of course, border clearance," stated a press release from the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to AFP.

During his statement Friday, President Uribe clarified that FARC kingpins hid in Venezuela and Ecuador, without the express consent of either government.

The evidence, Araújo informed, will be provided to Quito and Caracas by diplomatic means, Reuters reported.

"Mr. Defense Minister has stated that he is collecting recent evidence. We will forward it very soon by diplomatic means, in the context of the Border and Security Committee we have with Ecuador, for them to know it first-hand," Araújo announced. "We also will forward it to the Venezuelan Government. We will have very soon the visit of Foreign Minister Maduro."
