"The closure of (TV channel) Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV) is not a legal or juridical issue, but political retaliation," said Monday opposition Acción Democrática (AD) leader Víctor Bolívar.

According to Bolívar, a demonstration scheduled by the government for next May 27th in support of non-renewal of a broadcast license for RCTV, was "aimed at intimidation to prevent any disagreement or public protests against closing RCTV," Bolívar said.

The government has claimed that the license will expire next May 27th, and the day after "a new channel 2 will be born."
