According to Deputy Darío Vivas, all that the government
has made with regard to non-renewal of a broadcast license
for private TV channel Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV)
is in accordance with the regulations on telecommunications.
"Some business sectors of the media oligarchy are not talking
about freedom of expression. It is just a business," he told
official TV channel Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
"Mere capitalism is at issue here. They would like to continue
enjoying the state license, doing whatever may please them
and becoming rich with a good that belongs to the state,"
he added.
Vivas feels that there are devisers entitled to the license
to be left available by channel 2.
"They have monopolized the radio spectrum, the frequency
granted, but this spectrum belongs to the people. They have
monopolized the spectrum for 53 years."
