CARACAS, Sunday May 27, 2007 | Update
From Catia Square, western Caracas, government followers
Sunday marched towards Caracas downtown in order to celebrate
the birth of public service Venezuelan Social Television Station
TVes, which is airing on open signal channel 2 as of May 28.
The demonstration was intended to support the Venezuelan
government decision not to renew the broacast license for
private television station RCTV, which expires on May 27 at
midnight, the official news agency ABN reported.
Demonstrators showed placards reading "TVes is a signal of
national talent," "TVes is a social and participative television
station," and others rejected RCTV with slogans such as "Marcel
Granier (RCTV CEO), the people's turn has come."
