Ciro García, chair of the Venezuela's Broadcast Chamber,
said he met with officers of the National Telecommunications
Council (Conatel), who told him that "little by little broadcast
licenses would be renewed," AFP reported.
The broadcast licenses for the 156 AM radio stations operating
in Venezuela expired last May 27, and only five have been
renewed so far.
"They told us they had no problems with radio stations and
they are going to renew the licenses as the relevant documents
are reviewed," García told Últimas Noticias newspaper.
Radio stations whose licenses expired continue to operate.
President Hugo Chávez' government decided not to renew
the broadcast license to 53-year-old private television station
RCTV, which ceased operations last May 27.
