Referendum not to be postponed if high court favors individual questions

National Electoral Council (CNE) chair Tibisay Lucena vowed to observe any decision from the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ) on a referendum to vote the potential changes to the Constitution made by President Hugo Chávez.

In this regard, in the event of a TSJ ruling on holding the referendum based on individual, several questions, CNE will act accordingly.

"If a decision is made to separate the questions, CNE should just obey," the CNE director told news TV channel Globovisión during an interview.

However, she noted that this possibility would not delay the day and time of voting.

"We are working on various scenarios in order to be ready. I do not think that there will be the need to postpone the election if the Supreme Tribunal resolves this way."

However, Lucena, noted that the referendum will depend only on the discussion held at the National Assembly (AN) and added that it could be scheduled for the first Sunday of December.
