Evo Morales uses Venezuela's security
Bolivian President Evo Morales uses sometimes the security
services provided by the Venezuelan government for budgetary
reasons, AP reported.
Based on an article issued by Bolivian daily newspaper La
Razón, during his recent visit to New York to attend
the United Nations (UN) 62nd General Assembly, Morales used
an aircraft property of the Venezuelan government and Venezuelan
security. This was presumably the reason for his delayed landing,
and not the fault of the United States, as the Bolivian government
argued.
According to the newspaper, the US authorities were surprised
because the Bolivian president arrived in a Venezuelan plane
and escorted by Venezuelan guards. As a result, they turned
the aircraft to neighboring New Jersey airport.
The move made Bolivian chief of staff Juan Ramón Quintana
to react angrily, and announced, along with Morales, that
the government was to launch a campaign to change the UN venue.
"It is a question of economic resources. We lack budget to
take 10, 12 or 15 security officers and perhaps this is why
the president flew onboard a Venezuelan plane. Perhaps it
was because of this," Minister of Defense Walker San Miguel
told the newspaper.
