Venezuelan Vice-President Jorge Rodríguez Tuesday said
he is filing a complaint with the National Electoral Council
(CNE) asking it to determine whether the Venezuelan Bishops'
Conference (CEV) may engage in electioneering against the
proposed changes to the Constitution.
"And if it (CEV) is a political party, then CNE should determine
whether the CEV enrolled or not in the bloc that rejects the
reform." Rodríguez added that if the CEV enrolled in
such bloc, then the Catholic bishops would have to demonstrate
whether they met all the relevant legal requirements.
The official added that the anti-reform street demonstrations
staged Monday in central states Carabobo and Aragua were planned
in the Diocesan Institute of Maracay.
