Chávez threatens to cut off oil supplies to the US if it meddles in the referendum

During the rally closing the campaign for the draft constitutional reform, the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez threatened to cut off oil supplies to the United States if it interferes in the referendum on the changes to the Constitution, Reuters reported.

The Venezuelan ruler has frequently issued threats about stopping crude sales to its top customer. But Venezuela remains as the No. 4 oil supplier to the United States.

Chávez says Washington plots to overthrow him. On Friday, Chavez said the Bush administration was colluding with the opposition to cry fraud after the referendum to stoke violent protests and provoke a coup.

"To the Venezuelan oligarchy and the US empire, from here I'm warning them that they won't be able to stop the car of the Bolivarian Revolution, because on Sunday we will approve the constitutional reform," Chavez said.
