Venezuelan troops accused of killing a Colombian on the border

Governor of the Colombian department of Arauca, Julio Enrique Acosta, reported on Tuesday that Venezuelan military officers killed a Colombian citizen and shot a child during blurred events investigated by authorities of both Venezuela and Colombia.

"It was a regrettable situation where Colombian Alfonso Pedroza, a resident of the town of Victoria, Apure state, was dead," said Acosta.

According to the official, Pedroza used to carry gas from Victoria to the Colombian municipality of Arauquita, AFP quoted.

On Monday, "when carrying the gas canisters on the Venezuelan side of the border river, the army arrived and the ship pilot for some reason started the engine and headed for the Colombian side," he explained.

"As a result, the military opened fire, shot dead Pedroza and injured a minor who was on the other side," Acosta added.
