US Embassy ordered to pay USD 400,000 in damages to woman

Following 21 years of litigation, the Fourth Court of First Instance in Civil, Mercantile, and Transit Matters, under judge Lisbeth Segovia Petit, ruled that the US Embassy to Venezuela has to pay USD 400,000 for material damages to Lilian Ramírez.

The court partially upheld Ramírez lawsuit against the US Embassy in connection with an accident she had in the diplomatic premises back on May 19, 1986.

The final ruling, however, dismissed Ramírez's claims for moral damages and lost profits. During the long litigation, she argued that the injuries she suffered in the fall forced her to undergo physical therapy on a regular basis during more than 10 years, which kept her from her job and deprived her from any income.
