The Organization of American States issued a resolution to
smooth the differences between Colombia and Ecuador out, but
the United States, even though it supported the document,
showed reservations, claiming that Colombia has the right
to self-defense.
The resolution rejected the incursion of Colombian military
forces in Ecuadorian territory -in an attack where the number
two man of the rebel Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces
(FARC) Raúl Reyes was killed. The organization stated
that such a military action violated Articles 19 and 21 of
the OAS Charter, and reasserts its members' strong commitment
to fight against the threats endangering the countries' security,
Efe reported.
