Asked about what should be done to dispel a crisis that involved Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and then Nicaragua, President Hugo Chávez on March 25 pointed out in a press conference that the necessary steps "should be taken by the main players in the crisis."

"And within this group of players, let us say that there are direct and indirect players. Venezuela is not a direct player in the crisis, speaking about the cause. The direct player prompting the crisis was the Colombian government."

Furthermore, Chávez thinks there are other players, which he branded as "power factors," namely the media.

"There are some media that seems to be stirring war every day. These are media controlled by the Colombian oligarchy. Some people in the Colombian oligarchy do not want peace," said Chávez.
