News agency Anncol, closely linked to the rebel Colombian
Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARC), branded as naïve French
President Nicolas Sarkozy, who on Thursday sent a medical
mission to Colombia to provide assistance to Ingrid Betancourt.
"Even for an unilateral hostage release you need the parties
to agree upon some sort of mechanism, to ensure security at
least. It is strange that President Nicolas Sarkozy is so
naïve an that the International Committee of the Red
Cross is accompanying him in such a dangerous adventure,"
Anncol said in a document published on the Internet.
A plane carrying the medical mission sent by Sarkozy arrived
early Thursday in Bogota, as part of a plan to provide assistance
to the French-Colombian politician, who is facing a serious
health condition as well as other hostages held by the FARC,
AFP reported.
Anncol also stressed that France's proposal should be distrusted.
People should not forget "that France is a capitalist country,
with a rightwing president, and is a member of NATO, and that
we do not know how sincere it is. We have to remember that
countries have interests rather than friends," said Anncol.
