Minister of Agriculture and Lands Elías Jaua said that
the Venezuelan delegation at the alimentary summit held on
Wednesday in Nicaragua would insist on the need to frame a
regional plan on food production to fight the global crisis.
Jaua, the head of the Venezuelan delegation along with Minister
of Foreign Affairs Nicolás Maduro, explained that the
plan should be based on four fundamental cornerstones. The
former three are provisioning of fertilizers, production of
seeds and mechanization of crops.
The fourth cornerstone, the minister added, is the use of
agricultural products to feed humans instead of manufacturing
bio-fuels. "This is a clear policy of our government and we
came to express it," he told reporters.
