Chávez and Venezuelan Interior minister were on AUC target list
Venezuelan President, Hugo Chávez, and his Interior and
Justice Minister, Ramón Rodríguez Chacín, were
on the list of military targets of one faction of the right-wing
paramilitary group United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (Autodefensas
Unidas de Colombia, AUC), according to a report published by
Colombian newspaper El Tiempo.
The AUC was created by Carlos Castaño, the slain leader
of the paramilitary group, according to the data of a USB flashcard
handed over to the Prosecutor's Office by a former AUC commander,
Efe reported.
Colombian prosecutors received the device last week from the
demobilized AUC commander Éver H.H .Veloza in northwest
Colombia, a region that was controlled by Carlos Castaño.
The Venezuelan paramilitary faction was going to be headed
by a commander under the alias of Antonio del Billa, said
El Tiempo. According to the Colombian newspaper, "his main
action was to declare as military targets Venezuelan President
Hugo Chávez and his current minister Ramón Rodríguez
Chacín, for allegedly supporting the Revolutionary Armed
Forces of Colombia (FARC)."
