Colombia not to apologize for using Telesur logo
Colombian Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos said that his
country will not apologize for the use of the logo of Venezuela-based
television news organization Telesur, during the rescue of 15
hostages from members of the Colombian Revolutionary Armed Forces
(FARC).
"To be honest, we did not believe that (the use of Telesur
logo) was important. We did never think that this would cause
any reaction," said Santos during a press conference held in
Washington at the end of his four-day tour in the US capital.
"We did not reckon that this action should be a cause for recrimination
or apology. We did not consider that this action could jeopardize
the role of journalists in the future," Santos insisted.
One of the members of the rescue mission posed as a cameraman
of Telesur and had the task of recording the rescue of Ingrid
Betancourt, three US citizens and 11 soldiers and policemen.
