Amorim: "Brazilian Congress to approve admission of Venezuela to Mercosur"

Economy Brazil's Foreign Minister Celso Amorim considers that "it is possible and desirable" that the Brazilian Congress will approve Venezuela's admission to the Market of the South (Mercosur), the regional trade agreement among Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Amorim thinks that the entry of Venezuela into Mercosur would be approved after the upcoming municipal elections in Brazil.

"I consider that the admission of Venezuela is very difficult at this moment, because we are on the eve of an election throughout the country," said Amorim in an interview published on Monday in Argentinean newspaper Clarín, EFE reported.

"However, I think that the Brazilian Congress will make a positive decision after the elections in November. It is possible and desirable," Amorim added.

Works flying high

05:09 PM. Economy. If any country has cashed in on the Bolivarian revolution, that is Brazil, particularly the private companies of the southern neighbor. Over the past five years, it has been awarded contracts for works to be carried out in Venezuela for over USD 14 billion. This puts it as the first recipient of government-to-government contracts, that is, without bidding, since Hugo Chávez took office.
