Insulza salutes strengthening of democracy in Venezuela

José Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), on Monday underlined the "peaceful, exemplary" display during local election in Venezuela and said that this behaviour reflects a "maturity that strengthens democratic institutions."

In a press communiqué, Insulza congratulated the Venezuelan Government and people for the climate of "normalcy," under which the local election took place, and emphasized the massive turnout of people who when to cast their votes "in peace and calm," reported Efe.

The OAS Secretary General praised the willingness shown by both Government and political opposition to seek dialogue and cooperation for solving the country's problems.
