Venezuela revokes measures against US Ambassador; requests his return

Politics
The government of Venezuela revoked "the measures imposed" on US ambassador Patrick Duddy, who was expelled from Caracas last September, and asked the US government to reinstate him immediately as its envoy to Venezuela, the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

Venezuela "has decided to revoke the measures imposed on Patrick Duddy, the United States ambassador in Caracas, on the understanding that, according to the principle of reciprocity, the competent US authorities have revoked similar measures imposed on Bernardo Álvarez, the Venezuelan ambassador to Washington, said the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, as reported by AFP.

The Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs "understands that, as a direct effect of these reciprocal decisions, the two ambassadors may return immediately to their respective posts, upon the submission of this diplomatic note."

This is the least that President Hugo Chávez has uttered to refer to the US government. In urging the Bolivarian Armed Forces to prepare for war, he said that a US raid on Venezuela through Colombia would trigger and spread over the region "the 100-year war."
