Politics
Caracas Metropolitan Mayor Antonio Ledezma on Tuesday afternoon held a phone conversation with José Miguel Insulza, the Secretary-General of the Organization of American States (OAS), who called the Venezuelan official.

According to Milos Alcalay, International Affairs adviser, Caracas Metropolitan Mayoralty, the conversation was aimed at finding solutions for situation facing Ledezma, who has been in a hunger strike ever since last week.

"Insulza stressed that ever since the beginning of Mayor Antonio Ledezma's hunger strike, he has been really worried about his situation and his health, but unfortunately the Honduran crisis drew all the attention, so he could not make contact before," said Alcalay.

Ledezma explained the situation to Insulza, and stressed that after their recent meeting in Washington, "the government's harassment of Caracas Metropolitan Mayoralty" has worsened, added Alcalay.

"The Secretary-General agreed to meet with the elected governors and mayors in OAS Washington headquarters, and Mayor Ledezma replied that he would advise governors and mayors, in order to find a way" to hold the meeting, said Alcalay.

Works flying high

05:09 PM. Economy. If any country has cashed in on the Bolivarian revolution, that is Brazil, particularly the private companies of the southern neighbor. Over the past five years, it has been awarded contracts for works to be carried out in Venezuela for over USD 14 billion. This puts it as the first recipient of government-to-government contracts, that is, without bidding, since Hugo Chávez took office.
