EC assesses positively Venezuelan controls on fishery products

Economy
The European Commission (EC) has issued a favorable report on Venezuela's veterinary controls to its fishery products, for considering that in general they "offer guarantees equivalent" to those provided by the European Union regulations.

The document also includes the findings of an EC mission of experts to Venezuela this year, to assess the implementation of national measures aimed at tracking residues of pollutants in animals and their food derivatives, Efe reported.

Currently, the only animal product that Venezuela exports to the EU market is the shrimp.

Shrimp's production in 2008 amounted to 12,538 tons, of which 6,130 tons were sold to the European Union; in 2009, the production of this seafood has reached 17,500 tons, the report said.
