Iran to assemble 16,000 vehicles in Venezuela next year

Economy
Iran plans to produce 16,000 vehicles at its new Venezuelan car plant in the coming year, said on Wednesday the Iranian minister of industries and mines, Ali-Akbar Mehrabian.

The Iranian minister's remarks came after a meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolás Maduro, and Minister of Science, Technology and Intermediate Industries (Mctii) Jesse Chacón, in Tehran.

During the meeting, the two countries focused on cooperation in the fields of food industry, gas and oil, agriculture, science and technology, as well as electricity generation, Mehrabian said, as quoted by the Iranian state TV.

Iran and Venezuela signed an agreement in 2006 to open a joint car plant in central Venezuela, which also included a clause under which the Iran Khodro Company will sell its Samand model in Venezuela, Efe reported.
