The Foundation for the Development of Electric Service (Fundelec) plans to invest USD 6.2 million, under the program "Sewing light" to install 1,531 photovoltaic systems, devices that convert the energy of sunlight directly into electricity, in indigenous areas, as well as in border and remote regions of the country.
The information was provided by Jesús Marrero, the national coordinator of the Sewing Light program, in an interview with the state-run news agency Agencia Bolivariana de Noticias (ABN). He said that the program is part of a Cuba-Venezuela agreement.
Marrero said that 525 photovoltaic systems will be installed in outpatient centers, schools and community centers; 66 water purification centers and water desalination systems; 44 systems for community radios and integral diagnostics centers.
