French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe rejected on Thursday the mediation efforts of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez in the Libyan crisis.
"Any mediation that allows Colonel (Muammar) Gaddafi to succeed himself is obviously not welcome," Juppé told reporters after talks with his British counterpart William Hague, Efe reported.
Meanwhile, the head of the British diplomacy William Hague was less emphatic and left the door open to Chávez's proposal to set up an international peace commission to mediate in the conflict that affects the North African country, particularly between the government of Gaddafi and the rebels.
However, Hague recalled that Chávez "is not known for achieving consensus."
