Colombia President Juan Manuel Santos said on Thursday that his US counterpart Barack Obama did not question his decision to extradite alleged drug kingpin Walid Makled to Venezuela.

Santos said that Obama responded "very well" when they addressed the issue during the meeting they held at the White House. Obama realized that "there are legal requirements and that (Colombia) has a rule of law, as they have in the United States," AP reported.

Santos added at a press conference that when the Colombian government initially told the US authorities that Walid Makled had been arrested, they responded that the alleged Venezuelan drug lord was a petty criminal. Santos did not mention the name of the US official or agency that ranked Makled as an unimportant offender.
