The Oscars Presented annually in the month of February by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, California, the Academy Awards are the highest recognition in the motion picture world. The coveted golden statuette was created in 1928 and depicts a naked man holding a sword and standing on a film reel with five spokes, each representing one of the original five categories recognized: actors, writers, directors, producers and technicians.
The Grammys The creation of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Inc. in the United States in 1957 also brought about the birth of these awards for outstanding achievements in the music industry. At present, over 105 categories and more than 30 musical genres are recognized.
The Rómulo Gallegos International Novel Prize Created in 1964 in honor of illustrious Venezuelan novelist Rómulo Gallegos, this prize is aimed at fostering the creational activity of Spanish-language writers. The Rómulo Gallegos Center for Latin American Studies (Fundación Centro de Estudios Latinoamericanos Rómulo Gallegos, Celarg) awards this prize every two years on the second of August, birth date of the distinguished author.
The Prince of Asturias Awards Since 1981, the Fundación Príncipe de Asturias annually rewards the scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian efforts of individuals and organizations whose achievements set examples at a global level. Eight categories are currently awarded.
