Sales in Venezuelan malls swell 30%

Sales soared 20-30% with respect to last year's Christmas in emblematic stores of the major malls in Caracas.

Stores' representatives informed that despite the gubernatorial election held on Sunday, it was the best weekend of the month.

The executive director of the Venezuelan Chamber of Malls (Cavececo), Claudia Itriago, said she had no information about the sales recorded on Sunday 16. "One business owner may have reported a good day for sales, yet this does not mean it was a good day for all. Many people visited the malls. I cannot tell it was the best sales day in the Christmas season, though."

She added, "Sales have been very active since November." Nevertheless, Itriago stated that she has not been authorized to provide further details on sales during the period.
