Venezuela is Spain's main buyer of weapons

Venezuela was reported at the top of the list of countries buying arms from Spain in the first half of 2012 and ratifies its position, for two consecutive years, as Spain's main client, the authorities informed.

From January-June, Hugo Chávez's Government purchased USD 217.54 million in arms, which is 26.5% of the total amount of arms exports reported by Spain, according to a document presented by the Economy Ministry to the Congress this week, AP cited. 

The purchase mostly entails the acquisition of the last military vessel (out of eight) ordered by Venezuela to Spanish ship maker Navantia.
