Maduro's trips are to cost 6% more than Hugo Chávez's

A Venezuelan opposition legislator condemned the fact that telephone expenses have been estimated at USD 1.5 million

Opposition legislator Carlos Berrizbeitia claimed on Thursday that the budget for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro's travel expenses exceeds USD 9 million.

The legislator rejected the fact that Maduro's travel expenses are 6% higher than late Hugo Chávez's budget in 2013.

"President Maduro's speech about austerity and socialism is not in line with the funds set out in draft FY2014 budget law, submitted by Minister Nelson Merentes to Parliament," the legislator said.

Further, Berrizbeitia described as "grotesque" the amount of money (USD 1.5 billion) estimated for telephone expenses.
