Venezuela's Vice-President Nicolás Maduro said on Wednesday that President Chávez was going through "a complex and difficult situation" during his convalescence. Maduro stated that the leader was undergoing physiotherapy, "a regular recovery procedure."

The vice-president outlined that in a phone call received from Chávez on Monday the leader told him that he "was walking and taking his first steps at therapy, which is part of regular recovery procedures, after having going through a complicated surgery as everybody knows."

Maduro noted that the Government has been informing about a situation whose progress is slow. In the meantime, "Our people have been given in every stage of such progress true information."

After all, living with HIV had driven her to help others – as a workshop facilitator giving talks and conducting seminars, or as a volunteer for local AIDS Service Organizations like Acción Solidaria (Solidary Action) and Mujeres Unidas por la Salud (Women United for Health, or Musa), a support group network for HIV-positive women. But when we were well into the interview, the realization that she might lose her private health insurance coverage made her change her mind.
