Venezuela's ombudsman receives files in defense of political prisoners
Some 125 files have been lodged with the Venezuelan Ombudsman's Office in an attempt to speed up the process for an amnesty request made to the Executive Office
Venezuela's opposition Deputy Edgar Zambrano delivered 125 files to the Ombudsman's Office on Thursday in defense of exiles and political prisoners within an amnesty request made to the Executive Office.
The congressman pointed out that promoting and monitoring Human Rights were among the duties of said office.
He also expressed that he understood the driving forces limiting the accomplishment of such a goal, yet he underscored that it was his duty to carry out all these procedures.
José Vicente Rangel clearly said: "We are not conducting negotiations threatened with a gun in the head." He warned behind closed doors in the midst of the social upheaval occurred during the oil strike in 2002 and 2003. Dissenting Timoteo Zambrano answered back that no other option was available: "The thing is that otherwise, you do not negotiate."
