Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez is stable and calm in Havana, Cuba, where he is recovering from a cancer operation performed on December 11, said on Monday night via Twitter Science and Technology Minister Jorge Arreaza.

"Fellow countrymen, DO NOT believe in malicious rumors. President Chávez has spent the day quiet and stable, accompanied by his children," wrote Minister of Science and Technology Jorge Arreza on his twitter account @jaarreaza.

On New Year's Eve, an ecumenical Mass was officiated at the Church of San Francisco, in Caracas, to express support and solidarity to Chávez, who according to Minister of Communication and Information Ernesto Villegas, watched the ceremony on television.
