Capriles: Venezuela has a government that does not govern

Reelected governor of Miranda state and opposition leader Henrique Capriles reiterated on Monday that on January 10 a presidential term ends and a new one begins. Therefore, Hugo Chávez should take an oath as the president of Venezuela on that date.

According to Capriles, given the health condition of President Hugo Chávez, "the government does not govern."

He stressed that the opposition has never suggested that on January 10 Chávez should lose his condition as president-elect. Rather, he said the terms and conditions provided for under the Constitution for such case should be met.

"We want him to take office, but if his swearing in does not occur, we have a number of established legal terms. This is not about constructions on what people like or not."
