Argentinean President Cristina Fernández arrived in Havana on Friday to visit Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, who has been in Cuba recovering from a cancer surgery he underwent on December 11, 2012.

Venezuelan state-run news agency AVN informed that the Argentinean head of state was welcomed at José Martí international airport by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, according to information released by news agency Télam.

President Fernández's visit took place one day after her foreign minister, Héctor Timerman, as well as other leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean, joined a mass rally staged in Caracas in support of Hugo Chávez, who failed to attend his inauguration for his new term in office.
