Despite the delicate health condition of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez after undergoing a fourth cancer operation on December 11, his overall clinical progress "has been favorable and his respiratory infection is under control." However, the Venezuelan president requires "specific actions for his respiratory failure."
The information was released late on Sunday by Minister of Communication and Information Ernesto Villegas, who addressed the country in a mandatory nationwide radio and television broadcast.
"The patient is strictly following his medical treatment." "The president is conscious. He is in communication with his family and his political team and medical staff. He keeps abreast of any relevant information."
This is the government's first report on President Chávez's health state ever since January 7.
