"Timing is good for the US and Venezuela to tighten ties"

The second term in office of US President Barack Obama could be a great opportunity for rapprochement and better relations with Venezuela at the ambassadors' level, tightening in this way trade ties and joining efforts against organized crime.

Such is the view of Carlos Romero, a Venezuelan specialist in politics. During a video-chat sponsored by El Universal, the expert explored the previous term in office of President Obama and the expectations about his second term, commenced on Monday.

Romero brands the US-Venezuela relation as "schizophrenic." "The Venezuelan government is the only one, except for Cuba, that refers badly to the United States. Notwithstanding, it is its main trade partner," he maintained.

"For the United States, timing is good to get (bilateral) relations back to normal. What does it mean? Naming ambassadors for each one of the countries; letting the US capital return to the oil business (concerning drilling and exploration). Importantly, a coordination policy should be implemented to fight drug traffic, on the one hand, and organized crime, on the other hand. There also Venezuela could pursue a more honest relation with the United States," the expert, also a regular writer at El Universal, strongly recommended.
