As it appears from a press release from the Ecuadorian Foreign Office, the meeting between Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elías Jaua and his Ecuadorian counterpart has been deferred "by reason of agenda"

The scheduled visit of Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs Elías Jaua on Thursday has been adjourned for reasons of agenda, the Ecuadorian Foreign Office reported on Wednesday.

The meeting to be held in Quito between Jaua and his counterpart Ricardo Patiño "has been postponed by reason of agenda. Nevertheless, the Foreign Offices of Ecuador and Venezuela will continue discussing and preparing a new agenda for the next few days," the Ecuadorian Foreign Office noted, as quoted by AFP.

Jaua and Patiño had plans to meet to "review the matters in the common interest in the bilateral relation, as well as in the political, economic, trade and cooperation ambits."

The Venezuelan diplomat was appointed to his current position on January 15 by Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez, who remains in a Cuban hospital.

Is protest over?

That political protest in Venezuela has lost momentum seems pretty obvious: people are no longer building barricades to block off streets near Plaza Francia in Altamira (eastern Caracas), an anti-government stronghold; no new images have been shown of brave and dashing protesters with bandanna-covered faces clashing with the National Guard in San Cristóbal, in the western state of Táchira; and those who dreamed of a horde of "Gochos" (Tachirans) descending  in an avalanche to stir up revolt in Caracas have been left with no option but to wake up to reality.
